I teach because it is a career path in which I can continue to learn, while at the same time inspiring

students to place their experiences in a context that helps them expand their understanding of

themselves and society. I am interested in teaching adult students, I love to work with

students who have solidified their reading skills and are ready for the challenge of applying them to

explore texts. My favorite courses were always the ones in which literature was used as a platform to

better understand society. Rather than having the teacher dictate what a specific work “means”,

our students are encouraged to formulate their own ideas, and create an active relationship

with the text. The role of a teacher involves steering the discussion, rather than monopolizing it,

negotiating differences of opinion within the group, and encouraging everyone to be involved. Most

importantly, I want to teach adult students to get pleasure from English language and

literature and use it to make sense of their world. Educating people is the most rewarding career I

    can imagine.

My aim is to show the students how to communicate their message with the best possible

language they can muster. A student needs to listen and understand as much as they need to speak.

Inevitably, all students want to speak English, but they forget the other half of the formula.

I aim to have all my students speak for the majority of the time. Expressing an opinion is important,

but asking a why question helps the students express themselves. I try to find ways and means to help

    my students speak.

In class, I consider myself as a team leader helping my team communicate in English. I emphasize to

my students that they must find the time to study English. I give homework on a regular basis. I am

very particular about student participation: everybody must participate. I regularly ask my students

for feedback about my style of teaching and the content of my lessons.

An interesting lesson is a successful lesson. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting

ideas. I always focus on the needs of the student and on specific objectives. We discuss questions,

deal with problems, identify important or new aspects of the language and discover ways of learning.

I use different exercises to improve pronunciation, grammar, speaking, reading, writing, listening

skills of the students. I always try to focus my lessons on things that interest my students,

things that the student can relate to, common experiences, and things in common to the group. I aim

to have a light-hearted and easy-going atmosphere in my sessions; to achieve the best out of peer

    pressure and peer assistance.
